TECHNOLOGY

iZotope has launched Photon, an AI tool for stem separation and audio cleanup built on 12 custom-trained models. Processing runs locally on the computer’s GPU, so files are not uploaded to the cloud.

The algorithms are split into Demix and Denoise. Photon can separate songs into four stems, split drums into kick, snare, hi-hat, toms and cymbals, isolate vocals, separate up to six speakers, and divide audio or video files into dialogue, music, sound effects and other material.

The Denoise section includes models for enhancing speech and reducing noise, room reverb, traffic and wind. Photon is available as a standalone app and an ARA2 plugin, with support for Pro Tools, REAPER and Cubase on Mac and Windows, plus Sequoia and Samplitude on Windows.

The software exports to WAV, FLAC, MP3 and video while keeping the original video stream, and opens formats including WAV, MP3, FLAC, AIFF, AAC, M4A, MP4, MKV, MOV, MXF and MPG. It is available for $349, or $259 during a cyber sale running through December 7, for Apple Silicon Macs and Windows 10 or later.
