Professional Sound Alliance launches to oppose unauthorized use of professional sound

Sound designers, recordists, mixers and sound effects library companies have launched the Professional Sound Alliance, a coalition against the unauthorized use of professional sound in media production and artificial intelligence.

The group, launched on September 24, aims to promote fair licensing for sound design and sound effects across film, television, games and AI training.

Professional Sound Alliance identifies two practices it wants to address: Data Piracy, described as the scraping of sound libraries into commercial AI models without permission or compensation, and Sync Piracy, the use of sounds and libraries in film, television and games without a license.

Names listed in the group's structure include Douglas Price of Pro Sound Effects as Chair, Jeremy Siegel as Coordinator, Pierre Langer of Boom Library, Craig Nimens of Sound Ideas, Karol Urban and Mark Mangini.
