Copyright Alliance, whose members include the RIAA, NMPA and Universal Music Group, has criticised Meta’s proposed updates to its terms of service for commercial accounts. The changes are scheduled to affect Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads and WhatsApp from November 20.

According to the organisation, the new terms appear to authorise Meta to scrape and use websites and content from commercial account holders for business products, including AI products. Copyright Alliance also says there is no opt-out option for Meta’s business partners.

Meta responded through Andy Stone, VP of Communications, saying the company wants to consult industry groups and leaders before introducing policy changes. Stone added that if the consultation extends beyond November 20, implementation will be delayed and the existing terms will remain in place.

The dispute follows an earlier delay from October 30 to November 20. Reuters reported an indefinite delay, while a court in Oslo temporarily barred implementation of the new terms after a challenge from ten Norwegian media groups.
